Under the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) the following vessels classes are required to carry a Scale E Medical Cabinet in addition to a Scale F First Aid Kit:

  • Class 1C – Berthed passenger vessels operating in restricted offshore locations (up to 30 nm)

  • Class 2B – Non-passenger vessels operating offshore (up to 200nm)

  • Class 3B – Fishing vessels operating offshore (up to 200nm)

The medical equipment and supplies in the Scale E Medicine Cabinet are suitable for single incident events involving 1 or 2 persons and are based on the assumption that medical assistance can be obtained within 12 hours.  If a vessel will be greater than 12 hours from help, and/or there will be more than 10 people on board, a more comprehensive Medicine Cabinet should be considered.  The pharmacists at Vessel Medic can provide guidance on this
