Scale G NSCV Marine First Aid Kits

543-sfjs-fglvu4.jpg

Under the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) the following vessels classes are required to carry a Scale G First Aid Kit onboard as a minimum:

  • Class 1D – Unberthed passenger vessels operating in partially smooth waters (areas defined by jurisdictions)

  • Class 1E – Unberthed passenger vessels operating in smooth waters (areas defined by jurisdictions)

  • Class 2D – Non-Passenger vessels operating in partially smooth waters (areas defined by jurisdictions)

  • Class 2E – Non-Passenger vessels operating in smooth waters (areas defined by jurisdictions)

  • Class 3D – Fishing vessels operating in partially smooth waters (areas defined by jurisdictions)

  • Class 3E – Fishing vessels operating in smooth waters (areas defined by jurisdictions).

The Scale G First Aid Kit can be used to assist in treating:

  • Wounds, Grazes, Abrasions, Scratches, Cuts, Splinters, Punctures

  • Strains, Sprains, Tears, Bruises, Dislocations, Fractures

  • Scalds, BurnsEye InjuriesStings, BitesExposure to extreme hot or cold conditions

The medical equipment and supplies in the Scale G First Aid Kit are suitable for single incident events involving 1 or 2 persons and are based on the assumption that medical assistance can be obtained within 2 hours.  If a vessel will be greater than 2 hours from help, and/or there will be more than 10 people on board, a more comprehensive First Aid Kit should be considered.  The pharmacists at Vessel Medic can provide guidance on this.

In accordance with AMSA regulations this First Aid Kit must be checked (and recorded) every 3 months.

Supplies and quantities may need to be increased in line with risks inherent to the voyage, the length of the voyage, access to medical facilities, the cargoes carried and the number of persons on board.  Vessel Medic is able to provide advice and recommendations on additional medical supplies to meet the requirements of individual vessels and journeys
